SharePoint Document Management at Leading Aerospace Company

ADLON has established a new document management portal (business process manual) on the basis of MOSS 2007 at Europe's biggest aerospace and defense group.

From the beginning, ADLON was involved in the project and responsible for design, development, generation and operation of the information system.

The portal has a multilingual structure and is being used at international locations throughout Europe. 3,500 users across all locations access this portal and find the required documents by the search function.

In the SharePoint all of the process procedure plans of the client have been deposited as visualized data and linked with the appropriate documents. All documents are monitored and controlled with "change workflow".

For the document management portal ADLON has developed all kinds of different solutions with site definitions and numerous features.

Installation and Configuration of the Citrix Environment

A Citrix environment, including the integration into the active directory structure of the client, has been realized at a middle-sized company in the metalworking industry.

For the sizing of an ESX environment, an analysis of the existing environment was made first.
Furthermore, a backup solution with Symantec BackupExec was installed and configured at the client.

Educational Institute: Terminal Services / Windows Server 2008

ADLON has proposed and afterwards realized the following solutions at an educational institute as part of a relocation.

  • Introduction of Windows Terminal Services on the basis of the till then available Windows Server 2008. This allows you to connect branch offices easily and utilize central services.
  • Introduction of a remote access solution for the branch offices, which does not set high requirements on the users and represents a secure and manageable platform for the client.
  • Introduction of Office 2007 and Exchange 2007
  • Introduction of a redundancy concept for an optimal availability of the applications (server).
  • Introduction of a Intranet with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (see enclosure ADLON MS Office SharePoint Services information).
  • Introduction of server management software on the basis of MS System Center Operations Manager.

Windows and Exchange Migration

ADLON has performed a Windows and Exchange migration at an expanding, middle-sized company in the Allgäu. The constant expansion of branches, recently in China and Brazil, has originated the project of implementing all of the worldwide domains of the company into one common ADS organization, considering all aspects of safety. A high availability and fail-safe mail traffic should also be achieved.

Together with ADLON, a concept has been developed, which offers the company a maximum of safety and reliability.
With the introduction of a redundant server infrastructure and a fiber channel SAN (storage area network) designed for high availability, the basis was formed for the afterwards performed Windows and Exchange migration.

Likewise, the complete VPN and Internet traffic as well as the mails in a preceding anti-virus gateway, will already be scanned and filtered before reaching the productive LAN.

Office 2007 & Network Consolidation

The ADLON data processing has successfully performed a server migration to improve the internal and external communication of a worldwide leading company for measuring and testing systems. As part of the server migration, the decision was made at the customer to introduce a new Microsoft Office System 2007.

Due to the dated infrastructure it was necessary to perform a consolidation of the network. The company had to update their commercially vital applications, because the existing platform did no longer leave space for new software or innovations.

As part of the migration to Office 2007, a decision was taken for the usage of a terminal server concept. For the majority of the staff, the new Office 2007 was made available by means of a Microsoft terminal server cluster.
In parallel with the rollout, a trainer from ADLON started the »in-house« training of the users.

In order to make the migration to the new technology as attractive as possible for the employees, the users had been informed beforehand during a 1.5 hour information session (per product) about the important changes, reasonable innovations and more complex procedures. Our experience shows that in this way the employees feel more like an active part of the process and not as a victim of the change.

"Our new platform, which includes the standardized hardware, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Office 2007, is an ideal and easy to supervise environment," said the IT Manager excited.
"The employees are more productive with the new desktop environment; the system administration is easier and centralized."

Office Migration at a Major Airport

One of the most extensive migration projects of ADLON was performed at a major German airport. Project objective was the migration of 3,200 PC workplaces of the airport from Office 2000 to Office 2007 as well as the target-group-specific training of the users. ADLON took over the project management, was single contact and assisted with expertise and experience. One important specification was the least possible disruption of the normal IT operation, working of the users and securing the compatibility to older Office versions, including Access databases, macros and embedded objects. Added to that, there had to be licenses assessed, classroom trainings executed, e-learning films provided and internal marketing concepts assisted. The project was carried out in accordance with the ADLON migration framework in time and budget.
